At North Florida Bone & Joint Specialists, our team prioritizes patient care and safety. As we approach World Patient Safety Day, we’d like to take the opportunity to highlight the efforts of providers, professionals, and support staff, particularly as it relates to providing in-office surgical procedures.

At NFBJS, our systematized approach to patient safety includes supporting an organizational culture and work environment in which patient safety is prioritized at every level. Internally, these coordinated efforts include building competencies, improving teamwork and enhancing communication among our staff. Externally, we engage patients and families in policies, shared decision-making and satisfaction measurement that promotes opportunities to learn and improve.

From a safety standpoint, our in-office surgical procedures, notably, include no increase in complications, infections or adverse outcomes. We keep patients comfortable with local anesthesia, similar to a dental procedure, instead of general anesthesia, which often requires intubation (breathing tube). Patients are also not required to stop taking other medications or fast before having a procedure performed in our office. Additionally, our in-office procedures can be scheduled in either Gulf Breeze or Pensacola and require minimal pre-operative testing, making them accessible and efficient. Patients also avoid excessive hospital fees and unnecessary charges without compromising a safe, sterile environment.

Our most common in-office surgeries are performed on the hand and upper extremities, including Carpal Tunnel Release, Trigger Finger Release, DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis, and removing Cysts, Lumps and Bumps. Visit our Procedures page to learn more about these in-office surgeries or our Physicians page to learn more about our experienced providers.

Emphasizing the safety and efficacy of our in-office procedures at North Florida Bone & Joint Specialists underscores our commitment to meeting and exceeding patient care standards. As we continue to innovate and improve, we remain vigilant in maintaining a high level of safety that aligns with the latest medical advancements and patient expectations. We invite you to experience the personalized care and attention that sets our practice apart.

Family Health History And Your Care

With National Family Health History Day approaching next week on Thanksgiving, it’s an ideal time to consider family health history’s role in your orthopaedic and sports medicine care. While many people think of family health history in relation to heart disease or cancer, a family history of orthopaedic conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis and other joint and bone issues can also impact your own risk and health management. Understanding and documenting your family health history can empower you and your orthopaedic provider to proactively manage or prevent conditions that could affect your long-term mobility and quality of life.
